The BMW X5 handles like the company’s famed sports sedans, which is the top reason to consider this crossover. With an optional third row, its flexibility and styling make it one of our favorites. A 300-hp turbocharged inline-six is standard; a 445-hp twin-turbo V-8 and a 255-hp turbo-diesel inline-six are optional. The plug-in hybrid combines a turbo four-cylinder with an electric motor for 308 hp. Its electric-only range is just 14 miles; we recorded a disappointing 21 MPGe in our testing.
